Caller ID Error

Since last Friday afternoon (July 16, 2010), the Town of Alpine has been inundated with worried phone calls from people across the country just like you, who were notified by their caller ID units that they had received a call, or in some cases multiple calls, from the Town of Alpine, Wyoming.

On Friday the town was working under the assumption that the calls were errantly being generated by the town's phone system; so at approximately 4:55 PM on Friday, July 16, 2010 the town shut down its phone system for the weekend in the hopes that this would resolve the issue.  Unfortunately minutes, hours, and now days later people are still getting notices on their caller ID units that the town had called, even though the town's phone system has been turned off and the town offices have been closed for the weekend.  For your information the Alpine Town Hall office hours are Monday through Friday 8AM-5PM MDT, the offices are otherwise un-staffed and empty.

Having eliminated the town's phone system from consideration, we have contacted our local phone service provider and made them aware of the continuing error.

I can assure you that unless you have had prior contact with the town regarding official business, the Town of Alpine has not been trying to contact you and that this is a caller ID service error of some sort; please disregard this and any further caller ID notifications from the town.

Please accept my apologies for any inconvenience or concern this matter may have caused you.

Sincerely,

Chief James C. Phillips
Alpine Police Department
